Training Booking

As staff or volunteers working with children it is important that you know what to do if you have concerns about a child. It is also important that you can engage confidently in the processes that contribute to safeguarding and promoting welfare. We can help you achieve this through the WSSCP training programme. Which training course is right for you?

To apply for training please book online via the West Sussex Learning Pool.

Please see below for information on our training and cancellation policies.

Allocation of places
Candidates will be allocated places on a first come, first served basis. You will receive an email to confirm your place or to be notified you have been placed on the reserve list. Pre-selection of course participants may be carried out prior to the course running to ensure a good range of multi-agency attendance.

If there are any cancellations for a course, places will be filled on a first come, first served basis from the reserve list.

If a candidate is not successful in obtaining a place on the course it is their responsibility to book a place on the next available course.

Training expectations

There are expectations that are expected of both the delegate attending the training (both virtual and face to face) and the trainer who is delivering the session.

  • Delegates are expected to arrive at least 5-10 minutes before the training is due to start, so that they are ready to learn. Arriving late is disruptive to the session and others who have arrived on time. Important information is given at the start of the training which is missed, and has a negative impact on the training experience.
  • The trainer reserves the right to refuse entry to those delegate who arrive late to training.   There is also an expectation that the trainer will run the session effectively, ensuring start and finish times are prompt and the training runs smoothly.
  • Please be aware the WSSCP reserves the right to charge delegates for late attendance.

Course fees
Member agencies who contribute to the WSSCP budget are not charged for attending training. Contributing agencies are:

  • West Sussex County Council (including Fire & Rescue Service, Maintained Schools & Pupil Referral Units, Maintained Early Years Settings)
  • Sussex Police
  • Health partnership
  • District and Borough Councils

There will be a charge for the non-maintained schools, independent and private sectors, voluntary community groups, and private, voluntary or independent organisations.

Fees are £120.00 per person for full-day courses and £60.00 per half day course. Payment is taken at the time of booking. Click on the link below to view the payment process. If you are a small not-for-profit organisation, based solely in West Sussex, you may be eligible for a discretionary reduction of 50%. See our WSSCP Training Charges table below. Please email lscp@westsussex.gov.uk prior to the course if the reduction applies to you.

Cancellation charges
These will apply after a place has been confirmed, if less than 5 working days’ notice of cancellation is given prior to the course date. The charge will be 100% of the course fee. Cancellation charges will apply to all agencies and organisations, including those who contribute to the WSSCP. Please note substitution of staff at late notice is acceptable and is the responsibility of the worker attending (or their manager), to inform the trainer of the change and mark the register accordingly to reflect the swap.

Non-attendance on the day
All agencies, including those that contribute to the WSSCP budget, will be charged 100% of the course fee for non-attendance on the day where the Cancellation policy has not been adhered to. Line managers will also be notified of the non-attendance.

Cancellation charges as above will be recouped via a budget code on the booking form, or as an invoice to line managers.

Course Evaluations
Course evaluations are essential to inform the content of the training programme and whether the courses have been effective.

Once a candidate has completed a course they will be asked to complete a short online evaluation form before they obtain their certificate.
